If you’e not using hashtags in 2020, you’re doing it wrong! Hashtags can be a MAJOR source to not only expand reach for your photos (aka get more likes on your pictures), but also to gain more followers. I created this list of 100 fashion blog hashtags for Instagram to help you skyrocket your Instagram growth in 2020.
Do hashtags work for instagram in 2020?
Yes, hashtags work for Instagram, especially in 2020! If you’re not using hashtags strategically or just placing random hashtags on your photos, it will get you nowhere. Having a proper hashtag strategy in place will allow your posts to show up under the ‘top’ trending section for that hashtag.
You can see below that I got over 11k views just from Hashtags alone on a recent photo on my Instagram.
What is the optimal number of hashtags?
There is an insane amount of debate about how many hashtags to use from so many people. Some will say you have to use under 30, some will say use exactly 30. I’ve seen a wide range of strategies implemented for this, but in my experience, I try to use 30 or close to 30. This method has allowed me to get thousands of impressions on Instagram from hashtags alone. Think about it, why should Instagram allow 30 hashtags if they only wanted you to use 10?
How do I know if a hashtag is working?
You can easily see if your hashtag is working by opening the Instagram app, going to ‘tags’ and searching what hashtag you’re trying to rank for. Then, click on the hashtag and you’ll see two sections ’top’ and ‘recent’. If you see your post in ‘top’ you that means your hashtag is working!
That’s me in the middle below on a 2.3 million hashtag!
How do you use hashtags effectively?
The secret to using the best hashtags is using a mix of high and low hashtags. By that, I mean how many posts each hashtag has associated with it. To find this, simply open Instagram, navigate to ‘tags’ and type in whatever tag you’re trying to appear for.
For instance, I type in ‘petite’ and can see ‘#petitefashionblogger’ has 73.8k posts, which is a good one to use. When you’re a smaller beginner blogger, you’ll want to stay away from hashtags that have tons of posts, like ones that are in the millions. Bigger bloggers will be using these so you have no chance (or a strong unlikelihood) of showing up for these hashtags.
What does LTK mean on Instagram?
If you follow any fashion bloggers, you’ve probably seen #LTKit @liketoknowit #LTKunder50 #LTKunder100 #LTKstyletip or some version of #LTK hashtags in their post captions. This is because once you get accepted into Liketoknowit, you queue your photos in the Liketoknowit app and it lets you add LTK hashtags. This also helps your post get more visibility in the LTK app whenever someone searches those hashtags.
Liketoknowit, also known as Rewardstyle, is one of the biggest invitation only affiliate networks. It mostly focusses on fashion, lifestyle and beauty bloggers. If you’re new to fashion blogging, I highly recommend using Liketoknowit/ rewarstyle. If you want to learn more about affiliate programs for new bloggers (aka how to make money blogging), I have a freebie on the Best Affiliate Programs for New Bloggers.
If you’re already familiar with LTK but not sure how to get accepted, I go into detail on my how to get accepted quickly into liketoknowit / reward style blog. Follow all these tips and you’ll get accepted into the LTK program super quick!
How do you know if a hashtag is banned?
Follow these five steps to see if a hashtag is banned.
- Open your Instagram app
- Click the magnifying glass to get to the search bar
- Type in a hashtag you’re looking to see if it’s banned
- Click on the hashtag you’re checking
- If there’s no ‘top’ posts or an error message, then that hashtag is blocked and you shouldn’t use it.
This example above has both a ‘top’ and ‘recent’ section so the hashtag isn’t banned. Make sure you aren’t using banned hashtags because it can negatively impact your account!
Is it better to put a hashtag in comments?
Instagram allows you to put hashtags either in the post caption or in the comments. Use a max of 3 hashtags in the caption and add the rest into your caption. I typically just include my LTK hashtags in my post caption since I usually schedule all my Instagram posts through the LTK app. Adding too many into the caption will make it look spammy and be distracting from your post caption.
