How Much Does a Fashion Blogger Make?
Prior to starting my own affordable fashion blog,I had always followed tons of other fashion bloggers. It seemed like they all had such a fun and easy job. Which made me think – How much does a fashion blogger make? Is it a sustainable full-time income?
Google “fashion blogger salary”, and you’ll see multiple articles pop up saying the average fashion blogger salary is 30k. I’m here to spill the tea on how much a fashion blogger really makes. Hint: 30k is way off.
The truth about how much fashion bloggers make (from a fashion blogger herself)
A fashion bloggers salary varies so significantly. I’ve been fashion blogging for two years on the side of my full-time job. Can fashion blogging be a sustainable source of income? Absolutely. There are bloggers that are pulling in 7 figure salaries. That’s crazy. You can learn how I make over 5k monthly fashion blogging here.
The reason why it’s so hard to give an estimated range because each fashion blogger’s salary is completely different. For instance, one blogger could be making $0.50 from affiliate sales, and be selling 1,000 items a month, while one could be selling higher-commission based products and doing sponsored posts.
One major thing to keep in mind – Just because a blogger gets more or less likes on Instagram, it doesn’t necessarily mean they make more money.
Having a fashion blog / Instagram and trying to grow is not an easy job. Especially while working-full time, believe me, I totally get it! The more time I’ve spend on my blog , the more reward I’ve seen. Each month I continue to increase my sales! The trick is figuring out which blogging method(s) work for you and which to invest your time in.
Here’s 3 ways you can make money fashion blogging:
- Affiliate programs
Affiliate programs, also known as associate programs, are a type of performance based marketing where you make money off items that you sell and promote. If you’ve ever seen #LTK #LTKunder50 or @liketoknowit tagged in a fashion bloggers post on Instagram, then they are part of Rewardstyle/ Liketoknowit, one of the best and largest affiliate programs for fashion bloggers. This year, I’ve already made $12,000 JUST from Rewardstyle. Affiliate programs are where I make the majority of my money blogging from. I go into way more in-depth on the best affiliate programs for new fashion bloggers here.
Affiliate programs are a great way to make money if you’re just starting off blogging. Even if you don’t have a blog, you can still sell items through the affiliate programs app, which is awesome.
However, if you’re only using social media or affiliate programs, but have no blog and website, you’re missing out on making thousands of dollars in additional income! Learn how to start a blog on a budget and make money. to skyrocket your sales.
2. eBooks and Courses
eBooks and courses are a great passive source of income. Passive income means you’re making money but not actively working at it. Essentially, you’re making money when you sleep. This is the best way to make money blogging! eBooks and courses take more time upfront to create but then are a one-and-done kind of deal.
3. Sponsored posts
Sponsored posts are another way to make money blogging. These are based around social media (how many followers you have, what your engagement is like) or how much traffic your blog receives. If you’ve ever seen #Ad on Instagram, this is a sponsored post. Think of it as an agreement with the company for you to post x,y,z and they will pay you in exchange for that post. Sponsored posts can be posted on any of your social media channels (Tiktok, Instagram, Pinterest) and on your blog.
3 ways to get sponsored posts
- Pitch to the brand directly
You’ll want to make sure to create a media kit when you’re pitching to brands directly. I did mine in the free app, Canva, hands down one of my favorite fashion blogging apps.
- Have the brand reach out to you
Having brands reach out to you is much easier than pitching to the brand directly because there’s not as much work involved for you! If you’re interested in working with a brand, always make sure to tag them in your social media posts and stories of you with the product. Brands search for influencers through hashtags and location tags, so it’s always important to try and include as much as possible (without going overboard) so that there’s a higher chance of the brand noticing you.
- Sign up for influencer platforms
An influencer platform is a site that provides influencers with tools to discover brands to work with and vice versa. Some to check out are Aspire IQ, Clever, Sway, Heartbeat, and Influence.Co.
If you want to start a fashion blog, why the heck not? I’d suggest going for it! While I’m nowhere where I want my fashion blogger salary to be (yet) it continues to increase month over month.
